Happy Birthday Gram: ‘Return of the Grievous Angel by Gram Parsons’   1

Last week, on the weekly radio show that I guest on, I played a couple of tunes by a singer that was new to me - Andrew Combs. He also has a backing band called 'Steelism' who are also well worth checking out. Anyway, the whole pedal steel guitar sound that Combs uses so well reminded me of this one by GP and ELH. Enjoy!   10

I was in Joshua Tree last week and thought of Gram Parsons, who was enamored with the National Park. He died there in 1973 from overdose of morphine and alcohol. Parsons' body disappeared from LAX where it was being readied to be shipped to Louisiana for burial. Before his death, Parsons stated that he wanted his body cremated at Joshua Tree and his ashes spread over Cap Rock, a prominent natural feature there; however, Parsons' stepfather organized a private ceremony back in New Orleans. To fulfill Parsons' funeral wishes, a friend stole his body from the airport and in a borrowed hearse drove it to Joshua Tree where they cremated his body.   10
