The canonical version of the canonical work by this band was played at the Fillmore on 2/27/69 and released on Live/Dead. This particular performance is like chamber music. If my husband and I had to pick "our song", Dark Star in any version would probably be it. So this will be my Eternal Jam. (This streamable track from a fan-traded tape is unfortunately tracked without the intro; you can hear the whole tape at https://archive.org/details/gd69-02-27.sbd.16track.kaplan.6315.sbeok.shnf )   1

Happy birthday, Jerry.

Used thereafter as a jumping off point for the band's spaciest live jams, this song began life on the other side of the single Born Cross-Eyed in 1968, and was recorded as a single during the sessions for Anthem Of The Sun.

Not as 'finished' as some versions but it's a delight to see Jerry Garcia syncopating whilst refreshed..

Something rather special... Make a cuppa, light up, pour several glasses of whisky.    2
