Eddie "Guitar Slim" Jones was the best guitarist to ever come out of New Orleans. Although born in Greenwood Mississippi, instead of following his contemporaries to Memphis and Chicago, he headed South to the "Big Easy" which is why I believe his sound is so special. I love the "blues" guitar surrounded by the distinctive New Orleans brass sound. By the way, at the end of this song (2:04) you can hear some dude yell out "Yeah" in the background. It's the voice of the session piano player, a young guy known as Ray Charles. He was so overcome by the track they had just laid down (remember, there was no overdubbing back in those days), he was just "in the moment"! What you hear by these guys is what they did in 3 minutes. Ray Charles spent a lot of time back then hanging out over at Cosimo Matassa's studios over on N. Rampart St, the border line of the French Quarter and Treme. Thanks to "9th Ward Jukebox" the original Youtube uploader for this info.
