Darkness has a hunger that's insatiable. And lightness has a call that's hard to hear.....
So much to say! This song was very important to me in the late 80's when I desperately needed to hear the line "the less I seek my source for some definitive the closer I am to fine." There are questions we are not going to answer (and questions some of us should not ask). And I am struck by the symmetry between this quite recent performance, and the one on Letterman back in the late 80s (it's on YouTube) about 25 years earlier. They played it straight up on two guitars, no one else, much like this. It's perfect that way.
There's more than one answer to these question.. I love everything these ladies do, but the words of Closer to Fine speak to me the most. Cuz I been there. I still am. I may never leave. I have looked through libraries and climbed mountains and dived into oceans. I used to think religion had all the answers but for me it doesn't. While science answers some questions, those answers it provides only lead to more questions, but the less I seek my source for something definitive, the closer I get to accepting what I have in my life as what it is, and not trying to make it what it's not. Other songs I almost posted as this jam include Galileo and Philosophy of Loss. This one's my goto tho. My talisman. When I'm stressed, this song reminds me that's okay cuz this moment is only a small part of what it's all about. Don't sweat the small stuff. It's all small stuff.
