Iris has a new album, but this song is one of my favorites from her earlier years. A sad song about one of those sleepy little towns in the hinterland where the interstate passes it by, only the old-timers even know it exists.
Iris is an acquired taste but she writes some amazing songs.
Anyone of a certain age who watched 'Northern Exposure' on TV will perhaps recognise this song - it was sung as the series came to a final end.
It's a bit unfortunate that Emmylou Harris (who accompanies Iris on this) is the one who can be seen in the picture above

(Dublin in) 'The rare old times' by the Dubliners is also on youtube and expresses a similar nostalgia.

Funny how something from childhood has a way of creeping up on you from time to time. Iris DeMent - Infamous Angel. One of those albums from my teenage years I'll treasure forever.
