Number 6 in my Albums of the Year list is La Petite Mort by James. The fact that James have been around for 30 years now (they got their start supporting The Smiths) and this is their 11th (that's right 11th!) album, is a huge achievement in itself. However La Petite Mort isn't just another album in James' extensive back catalogue, this is a progressive, powerful and life affirming record and one of James' very best to date. La Petite Mort translates as The Little Death which is very much the central theme for the record, with mortality being explored following the passing of Tim Booth's mother and one of his close friends. Key tracks include the EDM-induced Curse Curse, the emotional and uplifting Moving On and the incredible All I'm Saying, the brilliant animated video for which is accompanied above.
