“I couldn't choose an Eternal Jam right now. I do have a list of contenders and this is one of the top 10. The Jimi Hendrix Experience's Voodoo Child (Slight Return) is simply brilliant electric blues from beginning to end, from the rhythmic rasp of Jimi's opening rhythm to the seamless blend that's achieved with the bass and eclectic drum fills, It's all good, one of my favourite blues tracks of all time.
I've chosen a live version for Jam Week for several reasons. As video it is a great watch. There are none of the stage tricks that I have read Jimi never liked doing anyway. This is the Experience live onstage, a group of tight professional musicians. They watch each other, take cues from each other without a word - Jimi is extraordinary but look close - his bandmates provide the foundation. Jimi sometimes turns to play to the amp, his back to the audience, entirely absorbed. They performing as a single entity of accomplished musicians, like friends jamming. Its long but a great video”

Happy Left Handers Day to all of my fellow sinistral jammers. Just remember, when Jimi sang "well, I stand up next to a mountain and chop it down with the edge of my hand", the hand in question was a lefty!
