What I probably was listening to most...20 years ago (Part 1). This is of course now a historic album, and it came out of the gate getting great reviews...but I'm sure I was a little skeptical when I walked into my favorite local store and bought it along with at least 10 other CDs on this day 20 years ago -- it was probably one of the biggest release weeks of my life for the various types of music I like. But American Recordings endures not only as the best release of that day, but certainly one of the best in Cash's entire catalog -- and this was his 81st album. He looks and sounds so strong here, singing one of ex-son-in-law Nick Lowe's best songs. Johnny Cash died less than nine years later. If you still have something to do, and you get the opportunity to do it ... do it. (Album released April 26, 1994)
