‘"Short Circuit 2" score - 26. Dying’ by Justin T. Lee
“It is perhaps one of the great tragedies of Contemporary Art Music that Charles Fox's timeless soundtrack to Short Circuit 2 has never been officially released. Due to protracted legal squabbles, the original master tapes remain locked deep in TriStar's vault in North Dakota. This unrecognized classic deserves an audience – and some Short Circuit 2 fans are seeing to just that. These 2horties (as fans refer to themselves) have painstakingly recreated Fox's score after studying hours of unreleased footage, including LaserDisc outtakes and the alternate German version of the film (Der zweite vorpubertären Roboter). Perhaps no track is more beloved than "26. Dying" with its simple, touching adagio – an homage to Debussy's setting of the Erik Satie classic Gymnopédies No. 1. Listen carefully around the 2:32 mark and you will hear an eerie foreshadowing of "Ben's Scream" a theme used to harrowing effect later in the Johnny 5 Backalley Abortion scene. TriStar, Release the Tapes!”
