Hello, Elly. Nice to hear you again.
New La Roux - finally!
let's start the year with the voice of an indie princess :)
Not my favourite track of the album but hey it's not bad...
#Top31Tracksof2014: I was not a fan of La Roux the first time they came around. I found their songs irritating, Elly Jackson's voice grating, and the mood and style a poor pastiche of better 80s pop music. In my defence, I was a stupid goddamn teenager.
"Let Me Down Gently" changed ALL of that. Over the course of 5 minutes and 40 seconds, Elly Jackson took me on a whirlwind tour of emotions. Her vocals are emotional, the lyrics are simple yet devastatingly heartbreaking, the instrumentation layers and builds gradually until that saxophone bursts through and releases all of that frustrated sadness. It is one of the best power ballads of recent memory and the best pop song I have heard all year.
"Trouble In Paradise", by the way, is a f*cking amazing album. #bestof2014
