This is my favorite Mastodon song - a 13 minute epic that closes out one of the craziest concept albums ever.
Over with weekend funk and back to some heavier stuff for the rest of the week—another one from Mastodon, this time from Crack the Skye; encouraged by their most recent album I’ve re-visited, out of curiosity, their previous work I’ve been familiar with but hadn’t given much airtime, and I’ve found myself overwhelmed by what, as a whole, Crack the Skye is. An incredibly rich, amazing album. I’ve been wondering what the change had been, from their previous album, The Blood Mountain, which was a bit too heavy fro me, and learnt something interesting. What does Mastodon’s Crack the Sky have in common with Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Incubus, Rage Against The Machine, Soundgarden, Korn or Stone Temple Pilots? Yep, you’ve probably guessed: the producer—Brendan O’Brien, who has produced quite a few of the iconic albums of the ’90s and, apparently, has shaped a large part of my music sensitivity, so thank you Mastodon and a huge thank you, Mr O’Brien.
