Although this could have been written in the Great Depression era or for that matter about the era in which we currently live it was actually written in 1854 by Stephen C. Foster, America's pioneer songwriter. As far as music goes I have always had a few favorites in every genre of music and in gospel Mavis Staples is one of a handful I love. Other favorites include The Staple Singers, Mahalia Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Johnny Cash,The Edwin Hawkins Singers & Patti LaBelle.
