40 yrs ago today, Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" hit #1 in the UK. It's a long, beautiful slow burn of a piece, that deserves at last to be stripped of its horror-film associations. Sit back and enjoy!

This album was a big part of my childhood. The build up to 4:16 still gives me goose bumps and tears in my eyes   1

I know everyone will think I'm a Mojo-reading twat for saying this, but I bought the 5.1 mix of Tubular Bells the other day and it sounds fabulous. Why did I resist for so long?!   3

Hypnotic! This 1973 album launched Virgin Records and became a hit after its opening was used as the theme for the film The Exorcist. Also read: "Mike Oldfield's strange journey from Tubular Bells to London 2012": http://bit.ly/OldfieldBells.   1

Is this piece of music creepy because it was used in the intro to The Exorcist? Or is The Exorcist made creepier by the music? A #Jamoween chicken/egg conundrum for you there.   1
