A traditional slave spiritual about "escape", according to Wikipedia. He recorded this in 1965. A 1953 version by The Blind Boys of Alabama is the earliest I can find. Born in Tennessee, Fred McDowell moved to Como in the North Mississippi hill country in his thirties.
