Blind NYC street person Louis Hardin, best known as avant-garde composer/songwriter Moondog, crafted wonderful musical miniatures over his decades-long career. His pieces combined rhythmic complexity with a melodic simplicity. This little art song almost sounds like children's music, but, beneath the playful naming of animals, it's also beautiful and odd and a serious plea for animal rights. Moondog was a true original.
