The Vile Stuff by Richard Dawson
“Very late to this, but last week I heard Richard Dawson for the first time and now I’m barely listening to anything else. This, from his most recent album, somehow simultaneously calls to mind Mike Waterson, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Sleaford Mods.”

I'm blown away by this. Imagine Ye Olde English Folk music meets John Fahey meets Slint with some darkly surreal and acerbic Half Man Half Biscuit-esque lyrics. (sorry a lot of comparisons there and its more than the sum of all that)
An astonishing piece of music - dark and intense - all 11+ minutes of it.

"Outside the chip shop Thaddeus Wagstaff fractures my cheekbone; 3 empty cans of Castlemaine XXXX Go rolling down my trouser leg Blood, snot and curry coalesce in the corners of my nails My friends drifting away from me"
Richard Dawson - The Vile Stuff . As cracking a sinister lament as you're likely to hear today.
I know we've just met, but this is possibly my song of the year
