The most bonkers lyric, the most ridiculous choice of vocalist, and yet this is always majestic.
On the Simpsons last night, Homer pretended to be a telephone call queueing system by singing Wichita Lineman and a bit of MacArthur Park. My wife did not believe me when I sang along. "No way is that a proper song; the lyrics are ridiculous!" she declared. "All the sweet, green icing flowing down...Someone left the cake out in the rain. I don't think that I can take it, because it took so long to bake it, and I'll never have that recipe again, oh no!".
