Too many steps to take, too many spells to break, too many nights awake.
It's a source of some bafflement for me that Richard Thompson isn't more widely appreciated - a great songwriter and a brilliant, innovative guitarist. My jam is from the last album he made with his then wife Linda, Shoot Out The Lights - in fact their marriage was over by the time it was released in March 1982. It's a marvellous album and it's #66 in my all time album list.

Shoot Out the Lights is a most famous "breakup" album – uncanny in capturing the pain and tension of love and musical partnership in demise. "Walking On a Wire" always struck me for its' Tragic Beauty... Linda's gorgeous voice soaked in anguish and trial.
