Richard Thompson and the band of anybody's dreams: Tear Stained Letter.
#Clapton? #Hendrix? #Vaughn? #Beck? Yeah, these guys (and several others) are great, but I'll take #RichardThompson. It's mostly about our personal preferences as to style and genre who you would choose. This video, captured recently, supports my favorite.
Just watch and listen to the #guitar work, how effortless it is. The first guitar break (1:40) is a subtle teaser for things to come with the massive closing solo (beginning about 3:50).
The thing about Thompson's solos is that they never go where you might expect. They always surprise. They're always interesting. Combine all this with his vocal prowess and incredible song writing, and there you have it: The total package. QED
