I think the job of the soundtrack is to introduce the movie (obviously), and to put you the viewer 'there'. In my life I've probably watched hundreds, maybe thousands of movies, and listened avidly to the soundtracks, hey I'm a music lover. I think this piece of music puts you closer to the story than any other piece that I can possibly think of. I wonder if you agree. By the way...old(ish) as the movie is(1983), you should still make a point of watching it. I don't think you'll be disappointed.               The film is based on the experiences of Laurens van der Post during World War II as a prisoner of war as depicted in his works The Seed and the Sower (1963) and The Night of the New Moon (1970). Sakamoto also wrote the score and the vocal theme "Forbidden Colours," featuring David Sylvian, which was a hit single in many territories. Sakamoto played the camp commandant as well as writing the music score.   7
