“This was essentially my jam for 2014. If I did have to label the one artist that has a very good chance at reaching mainstream success, it is Ryan "Saint Pepsi" DeRobertis. He can rock a very indie vibe, being one of vaporwave's major players in recent memory, and yet we see his charm reaches into poppy ballads like "Fiona Coyne". Christened "the only love song about a Degrassi character", the song is pure romance cloaked in chocolate and edible confetti. Of all the genre transitions I expected from an artist, this was certainly within reach of being the least predictable. However, it's certainly not impossible. Saint Pepsi has always been about production values. Who's to say his work in sampling hasn't honed him for this moment? Least expected is his vocal work. "Fiona Coyne" is the first song he's done with original singing provided, and I only wish he did it sooner. One that is confident enough to sway between disco and teenage pop, making the best of both worlds.”
