No2 in #VoodooZombieWeek and it had to happen. There are a dozen good versions of this song and I might pick a couple more later. If you haven't seen the Screaming Jay documentary look it up. It's very good.

One of the fathers of what became shock rock, I've always enjoyed this song. Legend is he was too drunk to remember what he did on the vocal track, and had to listen back to it when he sobered up in order to repeat it. Worth it, I'd say.
Recorded by many, notably Nina Simone, this is the original version by the man who wrote it. Hawkins had originally intended to record "I Put a Spell on You" as a refined love song, a blues ballad. He reported, however, that the producer "brought in ribs and chicken and got everybody drunk, and we came out with this weird version... I don't even remember making the record. Before, I was just a normal blues singer. I was just Jay Hawkins. It all sort of just fell in place. I found out I could do more destroying a song and screaming it to death. #Classic#HopeYouLikeIt 10
