It was the first Cup held in Africa, and some records were set, it was the first time the host nation was eliminated in first round, also for the first both the current champion and runner-up (Italy, France) were out in 1st round. Spain achieved something only Germany did before (winnin the European championship and the World championship consecutive), Spain also was the first team to win the Cup after losing their first match (0-1 against Switzerland), the final between Spain and the Netherlands was the first World Cup final since 1978 (Argentina-Netherlands) that feature two teams with no previous World Cup titles, also the first Final since 1978 not to feature Brazil, Germany or Italy, for the Netherlands was their 3rd final and 3rd lost after 74 & 78, Spain won 1-0 on extra-time becoming the 8th world champion.
