The Lonely People (Are Getting Lonelier) by Stars of the Lid

“Two hours of soft-stringed tides; this has became my go-to 'sleep record'. This track is a twinkle amidst two hours of melancholic fog, a few tracks have a similar effect; of splitting up the multi-part pieces (which dominate the album) into less morbid, and more sombre chunks. There is little to explain about Stars' drone - heavily textured waves ebb and flow, and for me they weave and lacquer the sonic image of some lonely, tired (as the title suggests), and downcast existence. More than the sound of each individual piece though, is the structure of the whole: It forms a wordless narrative of fleeting feelings, meticulously induced over the album's duration. What I really wanted to share was the three parts of Broken Harbors, on disc one, but due to their length and the difficulty of uploading that, I hope that instead this can represent the kind of material which helps build that tonal narrative. Best enjoyed in the dark of twilight, alone, with no distractions.”
