“Ever wondered how close early Status Quo was to early Spinal Tap, spending years starving to death recording poppy stuff before achieving success playing stadium hard-rock / heavy metal ? Up to their respective names... Yet, whereas the Tap was nothing but ridiculous of course, the Quo had quite a string of nice singles before making it in the charts with its rather simple-minded three-chord boogie-rock stuff. I even prefer anything they released from the time they were known as The Spectres up to, say, "Dog of Two Head".
