Like Waylon Jennings on acid.....
A friend introduced me to Sturgill Simpson the other day. I like the direction he takes outlaw country.

Much like 2013, Country music has really been strong this year, and the psychedelic swing Sturgill Simpson puts on things is really appreciated. This is my jam, THIS IS MY JAM.
"Grab a glass of wine and a seat to dine and go ahead and eat the whole damn pie" looking forward to this this weekend.

Any country artist who references Ray Charles' classic Modern Sounds In Country & Western Music has my attention. I'm not at all a fan of today's country (which doesn't seem to be anything other than rock at its most derivative) but Simpson's second album, Metamodern Sounds In Country Music, recalls those glory days in the 1970s when the likes of Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings shook up the entire genre and raised many an eyebrow. Simpson's album references LSD and psilocybin mushrooms (on the incredible opening track "Turtles All The Way Down") and he seems intent on finding salvation throughout the album. Here's hoping he continues his search because this is one interesting country record (although I'm certain he'll not be heard on any country station @UncleCarol listens to).
