Interviews by The Alpha Band
“Opening track from the band's debut album, featuring a trio of Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue members, including T-Bone Burnett. I've always loved this song for the weird references, including Russ Meyer identified as Russ Meyers, "lava lamps," "with a blonde on each arm drinking Chi-Chis." If you can find it, the original vinyl is the way to go. A European comp CD came & went, now commanding a price tag of $75+. Great stuff!”

The Alpha Band was a T-Bone Burnette vehicle in the mid 70's. They did some very good work. This is probably the strangest tune in their repertoire and my favorite. Sandwiched in between allusions to iconic cultural symbols possibly prefigured millions of years ago ( or detritus of a post apocalyptic world?) are the overwrought self serving concerns of arrogant hustlers and players. Self important fools of a type also as old as the hills and merely more trash for the dustbin of history? Anyway, I particularly like the wet synth line squelches and the abrupt octave crawl of the chorus that is nothing short of ethereal. Catchy and sublimely weird.
