The closing song on side 1 of "Revolver" and the final song to be recorded for the album. It was finished being written, rehearsed and recorded in a frantic 9 hour session, after which George Martin is reported as saying, "All right, boys, I'm just going for a lie-down."
Written by John with some help from George. Lennon is quoted as saying it was written after, "an acid trip in LA during a break in The Beatles' tour where we were having fun with The Byrds and lots of girls. Some from Playboy, I believe. Peter Fonda came in when we were on acid and he kept coming up to me and sitting next to me and whispering, 'I know what it's like to be dead."
It's one of the very few Beatles tracks that Paul doesn't feature on at all. George plays both lead and bass guitars. Awesome drumming from Ringo!!
