We were both saddened to read earlier this week of the death of Ray McFall. Maybe not a well known name in the Beatles story. But Ray was, from 1959 the owner of the Cavern Club in Liverpool, where The Fabs played about 300 times, in under 3 years!! It was him who changed the Cavern's music from solely jazz to bringing in many new "beat groups". The Beatles first performed there in February 1961 in a lunch-time session. After their first gig, Ray is quoted as saying, "I stood at the side, between the pillars, about halfway up the hall, and as soon as they started playing I was captivated by them." This video is from a Cavern gig in '62 . Thank you Ray McFall!!
