#SundaySoother with #cheese for dessert The Dells were originally the El Rays - they changed their name in 1953. The song was inspired by a party some female friends threw for them. The 1956 version hit #4 on the R&B charts (Vee Jay Records), sold over a million copies, and became a romantic standard. This was re-recorded in 1969 as "Oh What a Night" with a radically different arrangement and tempo. Released on the Cadet label, the remake scored a #10 position as it also sold over a million copies. --thanks songfacts THE FIVE HEARTBEATS is a flick I haven't seen yet that is loosely based on The Dells trailer https://youtu.be/IKhZXOU5SCg review http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/the-five-heartbeats-1991   3
