This description is a bit like one of those nested dolls. One of my favorite podcasts is 99% Invisible, which investigates seemingly mundane things like billiard balls, flags, streetlights, etc. and finds interesting stories behind them. Last week's episode focused on how they create music for horror films, but then had a preview of a new podcast called "Song Exploder" at the end of the show. Song Exploder breaks down how musicians create their songs and it had this very fascinating piece how John Roderick and the Long Winters created this tune, which memorializes the space shuttle Columbia disaster. It was a neat peek behind the curtain for how these tremendous artists dream up and execute a song, and in this case a really haunting and poignant one.
