The Legend of Chavo Guerrero by The Mountain Goats

“This has been out a while. When The Mountain Goats are upbeat it's like a blast of joy. The music here is very typical for them, but you don't listen for the music. The lyrics tell the story of JD's childhood hero juxtaposed with his terrible home life. The line "I need justice in my life / here it comes" both stings and uplifts. From about 2000 - 2011 The Mountain Goats put out a series of great albums at the pace of 1-2 a year. My favorites have been the ones based on an interesting theme, like "Tallahassee," "All Eternal's Deck," "Life of the World to Come." Their upcoming album "Beat the Champ" is about how Darnielle found solace as a child by following Southwest Territory Wrestling on UHF. Strong and interesting theme. I'm excited for the new album.”

There's something about that last verse and the "it's real sweet to grow old" line that gets me every time   1

Happy Day After Father's Day: here's a song that's largely about a jerk step-father. "Now your ashes are scattered to the wind."
