My mom tells me to stop listening to music thats older than my grandma.
Smoke Gets in Your Eyes is a show tune written by American composer Jerome Kern and lyricist Otto Harbach for their 1933 musical Roberta. It was sung in the original show by Tamara Drasin and originally recorded by Gertrude Niesen on October 13, 1933, on the Victor label 24454. It was performed by Irene Dunne for the 1935 film adaptationhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkQU-VQkhGw - It was also sung by Kathryn Grayson in Lovely to Look At. It's also been sung by Nat King Cole, Barbara Streisand, Vic Damon, Eartha Kitt and many others but I think this is my favorite version.
"...so I smile and say, 'When a lovely flame dies, smoke gets in your eyes.'" Still love this song & version.
Again, when the music makes you remember someone, you know it's special.
