“I was working at a well-known record store in downtown Toronto when The Strokes first album came out, and it was fun, and there was controversy over the sexy cover image, and controversy over a song called "New York City Cops" that had to be dropped from the album because the Twin Towers had just fallen (for some reason you weren't allowed to sing about NY city cops anymore), and there was controversy because they were dirty and wore leather jackets but were actually from pretty well-off families who owned at least one bathroom with a working shower head. It's been a little over a decade since then and there's not too much controversy surrounding The Strokes these days, and their music hasn't really evolved and the record store I worked at is long gone, and I hear the war on terror was a success BUT The Strokes are still wearing leather jackets, they still look kinda greasy and dishevelled and that's just fine with me. Stay classy, Strokes.”
