My Top 10 Albums of All-Time ~ 6. The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground and Nico (1967) ~ The legend goes something like: hardly anybody bought this record when it came out, but everyone who did went on to form a rock and roll band; and while some bands inspired hordes of copycats, each song from VU & Nico spawned an entirely new sub-genre. I dunno about any of that, but this has to go down as one of the most stunning and fully realized debuts in rock history. Each song is its own mini masterpiece, brilliantly sequenced, defying genre, seeming to have no distinct reference point in history, as if appearing out of nowhere.
