@MOJOmagazine decided to accompany their October 2004 Rolling Stones-featured issue with a compilation CD devoted to The Clash. With songs chosen and sequenced by Clash members Mick Jones and Paul Simonon, it is unsurprisingly heavy on reggae. I'm grateful that they also chose Thea Gilmore's cover of this song from their 1979 album London Calling, because it's quickly become one of my favorite "new" things I've heard this year. It does what the best covers do: it reveals the covering artist's talents while revealing the excellence of the original composition. This track can be found on later editions of Gilmore's 2004 album Songs from the Gutter as a bonus track.
