“I'm reminded of this perfect piece of pop, having been in the same wee bar in Glasgow, as one Fran Healy, vocalist on the toon. This would have been around 1997, when the band was in its infancy. I just happened to recognize the fella, when all those around were in blissful ignorance. My belle for the evening was most impressed by my street cred. It was a more positive end to an evening which had started rather bizarrely. It was a first outing, so to speak and as I always liked to do, I laid my cards on the table, for the avoidance of any wee issues. She being a tad younger, had visions of me being 'the one', with patterings of tiny feet being a possibility. Having already had my one & only son, my explanation of being...er, fixed, resulted in tears running down her face, bringing a concerned waiter over, fearing the cuisine was not up to scratch. Actually, we did go out & have fun for some months, but 'twas not written in the stars. As someone once sang, "wonder what she's doin' now".”

If you go into a charity shop and it doesn't have a copy of The Invisible Band, it's not a proper charity shop. Brilliant song, this. Also, revisit The Man Who sometime, you may be surprised about how well it's aged #bargainbasementweek
