Day 2 of Reggae week. It's debatable but possible that it was U Roy who popularised "toasting". Toasting is a style of lyrical chanting which, in Dancehall music, involves a deejay talking over a riddim. So in effect giving a new vocal to a piece or pieces of music. Toasting was influenced by the jive talk of the US disc jockeys . This approach to production and the remixing of previously recorded tracks with a new vocal influenced the hip-hop pioneers.   39
