Been playing the main scales from this all night and trying to see how they went from those to this masterpiece...
Going to miss this site, such an eclectic variety of new and old, familiar and unfamiliar, thanks for all the fantastic jams!

One of my most favourite pieces of jazz/jazz-fusion (& instrumental generally) music, featuring one of my most favourite bass players - in fact, one of my most favourite musicians - in Jaco Pastorius.

The stir & fuss caused by the release of Heavy Weather at the height of the Punk and Disco era should not be underestimated. Birdland is now a Jazz Standard, a Classic. It's been covered a zillion times. Today we commemorate Jaco Pastorius's life (he was murdered). He revolutionised the bass guitar. He took pliers and pulled out the frets, inventing a new instrument. Listen to this track: the MELODY is played on bass using false harmonics, the BASS is played by the synth. This man turned the world upside down: fretless, long legato runs, chords, lead bass, pseudo classical guitar parts for the bass, I could go on, but no, let his music and legacy do that. Please enjoy this live performance from these master musicians.
