Between the hurt, And the tender song. Between the flash, And the thunder's drum. There is a godly state, Where the real and the dream may consummate.
Oh the sweetest spot. Oh when it's gone, it's gone. Don't make me suffer for that, Just allow me a final divine act.
And here it is, the moment of truth, my Album of the Year is........Present Tense by Wild Beasts. My very first jam of the year way back in January was the pulsating and operatic Wanderlust, the first track from the Kendal quartet's fourth album and also the lead single from the record. Since the release of the album a month later in February, it seems that there hasn't been a week this year where I haven't at some point returned to give Present Tense another spin. Although their previous two albums, Two Dancers and Smother, were both sensational, Present Tense is where Wild Beasts really stake their claim as one of the finest bands in Britain today. From the apocalyptic, bass-trembling Daughters, to the art-pop of A Simple Beautiful Truth and the blissful, synth-driven climax of Palace, the album is quite simply flawless. Key tracks include tracks 1 through to 11 but to give you a taste, here's the magnificent Sweet Spot. Thanks for reading and the normal weekly jam returns next week!
