"Spoonful" is a blues song written by Willie Dixon and first recorded in 1960 by Howlin' Wolf. Called "a stark and haunting work", it is one of Dixon's best known and most interpreted songs. Etta James had a pop and R&B; record chart hit with "Spoonful" in 1961 and it was popularized in the later 1960's by the British rock group Cream.
Willie Dixon would later move to Cobra Records with Buddy Guy and other greats to be talent scout, producer, arranger, songwriter, bassist and became "the artistic vision behind Cobra Records." They would be the West Side Sound for Chicago blues.
This live bit is from a show that I used to love in its brief run SUNDAY NIGHT which was a great way to wind down a weekend.

This song was on a mix tape a friend gave me that her boyfriend gave her. It was a super important tape that didn't leave my car stereo for a long time.
That same tape also had Strokin' on it. Totally changed my life.
