The bill: Simple Minds supported by The Cult, The Waterboys (both of whom I also loved), The Bangles and In Tua Nua. Coolest moment of the day: a loaded beer can propelled from the crowd with uncanny accuracy straight towards the head of The Cult's drummer mid-set, only for Ian Astbury to nonchalantly pluck it from the air in front of the drum riser without breaking stride or note…
Simple Minds were my favourite band between 1983 and '86, until their late-80s bombast finally throttled them and I transferred my allegiance to R.E.M. for the next 5 years...
@stevefawcett I'm unable to jam the first band I went to see as a lot of their early live stuff is blocked but just in case you were interested it was the Happy Mondays at the Corn Exchange in Cambridge summer/autumn time in 1989. My friends and I had finished our 'A' levels that year and 'Hallelujah' was in the charts :)
What a great first band for you to see live though... :)
Good one @MadameZia!
@stevefawcett thank you x
Love these guys, but never heard this track..... awesome, Thanks.
