What I probably was listening to most this week...20 years ago (Part 2). Too few people have heard of Ted Hawkins. I hadn't heard of him until the release of The Next Hundred Years, and sadly, the career busker wasn't with us for very many years afterward. A few weeks after the album's release, I saw him play at the Bluebird Café in Nashville (my only visit to that storied venue for songwriters). Hawkins opened with this song (a cover from the album of a Webb Pierce classic). He pointed to the front door of the club and bellowed the first line as he does in this clip...and for an intense few seconds, I thought he was ordering all of us to leave. But he turned out to be a genial entertainer, not to mention a unique singer. Miss him. (Album released March 29, 1994)

Ted Hawkins was one of the greatest bluesmen to ever live. I wanted to share his song "Big Things," but whoever the copyright belongs to is a shithead.
