“When what was on the radio was everything in the world to my 12-year-old ears, this song was always playing. What impresses me most now is not only her singing, which was classy and impeccable, but the production. Producers knew they had a hit and threw everything into it. Strings, an amazing little guitar filigree, it was over the top but gorgeous. RIP Lynn.”

RIP Lynn Anderson... whose "(I Never Promised You a) Rose Garden" is one of those weepy, maudlin, country-pop gems that is a pillar of TragicBeauty sensibility.

Since Thursday's election, I've been sensing an atmosphere of shock & disappointment in some of my compatriot's, and it brought to mind this great song. I find it kinda comforting when going through a rough patch. For them that's hurting, I feel for ya, but we've all gotta go forward somehow.
