@paulgdaly yes, that's a great thing. i am just now reading a lot of celebrations of Born to Run's 40th anniversary. You don't have to go very far down a thread to have someone steer the conversation around to how Disco Sucks and Bruce saved us from that. Sigh...
@timmuky several things. If those Born to Run retrospectives are on line, link a brother up, so I can have a good fume. Back in '79, '80 I was knee deep in punk and new wave, but when I went dancing I wanted the DJ to spin MJ, Prince, Madonna, Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, Kid Creole etc. Again, 40 years on and people are stuck in there little white ghetto.
@timmuky Which all of the above is not to say I don't like Bruce. At the end of the '70's all through my college years "Darkness.." and "Nebraska" were in heavy rotation. So much so that my Ma nicknamed my room in the house "The Darkness at the Edge of Town".
@paulgdaly i spoke as though there were more than one thread, but tbh i had in mind comments on the facebook status of a distant friend. so while i can't share the evidence i assure you the disco-suxers are out there...

That was the great thing about growing up in Ireland --- you could love MJ AND Planxty and no one thought that strange.
bluetapes
Isn't it from 79? (Off The Wall - I may be wrong)
timmuky
@bluetapes you're right. off the wall was released august 79. but that's pretty close to the 80s. at any rate, that's when i first heard it...

@Richie3000 I notice that @dacia and @shitsterbauer are tagging their final jams with #tilthewheelsfalloff. Think we should all embrace that spirit!

but i agree on both counts, about the white ghetto and the fact that bruce in his day was pretty great
timmuky

@timmuky And THAT is why I am not on Faceballs. And yes, my ma invented sarcasm it seemed. She has loads of little digs like that.
